Brandy Glasses – A Great Gift.
My brother is a big brandy drinker. He doesn’t drink the cheap stuff, just the high quality, expensive types. I’m not quite the connoisseur that he is, but when his birthday was coming up, I figured a set of brandy glasses would make a great present. Unfortunately, I didn’t know anything about brandy glasses and had no idea what to get him. I didn’t know what shape was good, or what was different between the cheap ones and expensive ones, or anything really. Because of that, I started looking around online and actually learned some cool stuff about the history of brandy glasses and some good choices for potential presents.
Brandy Glasses History:
Since brandy is such an important part of picking brandy glasses, I looked into the history of that first. Apparently brandy is basically a burnt wine. It has been being made for almost a thousand years. While its main use was of course drinking for pleasure, it was also used medicinally by the Arabs in the seventeenth or eighteenth century. In the 19th century, the Irish figured out how to produce it in higher volumes and also how to make it much more refined. Today, brandy is a popular drink around the world, coming in many different varieties.

When I got down to actually looking for brandy glasses, I came across quite a few good possibilities. The first one was the Lenox Tuscany brandy glasses. Everything about them seemed to be just what my brother would like. The mouth was wide enough to allow you to smell the aromas of the brandy but not so big that they would disperse. It wasn’t too heavy, but also not too thin or light. They were fairly durable. Every review I could find of them said they were really great. The set includes four glasses each with a 14 ounce capacity. I’m not sure I’d ever drink that much brandy at once, but it’s a fun notion. If not for the other set of glasses I found shortly after, I wouldn’t have even thought twice about purchasing these.
The other set of brandy glasses I found that made me have to really think hard was the Anchor Hocking Excellence set. Part of why they were attractive is that a set of 12 cost less money than a set of four Lenox Tuscany brandy glasses. My brother often serves more than four people at a time, so I’d have to buy a couple sets of the Lenox, which would get expensive. The Anchor Hocking Excellence set was much less expensive but didn’t seem to be lower quality. They had a nine ounce capacity, which seemed much more reasonable to me, and were also very durable, even being dishwasher safe. Despite the lower price tag, many of the reviews I read said that the glasses were attractive enough that they had no problem using them at dinner parties.
Be sure to also take a look at the gorgeous brandy glass ARC Cristal D’Arques. These sparkling brandy snifters are genuine crystal designed and made i France. Since they are crystal glasses these are pretty heavy but beautiful to look at. Please note that as far as brandy glasses goes these are on the smaller side holding only 10 oz.
Brandy Glasses Conclusion:
It was a pretty hard choice, overall. However, I decided that the Lenox Tuscany set was the better buy. I don’t need 12 glasses so I got two of the Lenox Tuscany 4 pack. It might not be what you are looking for, but I hope my experiences can help you find the perfect brandy glasses for you.
